Friends, Family, Rejuvenation

It’s funny, the way a feeling can change in just a few days. Last week, I wrote about a bitter feeling towards this country, the overwhelming materialism, the dark history that stood out paramount alongside the undeniable beauty.

On Tuesday, we flew onward to Wisconsin blanketed in a crusty snow. After a couple of restorative days with my parents, we drove across the state to our old home, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Meetings with friends there have bolstered up my faith in the world. I don’t have time for a long post today. We’re driving back to Wisconsin this afternoon for Christmas. My sister and her fiancรฉ will be there now. But I’ll share a few things below, which I hope can transmit a sort of peace.

I stopped by the high school I used to teach at, visiting with old colleagues and friends. The school is changed: huge renovations began the year after I left, and now the 9th graders have joined our erstwhile 10-12 building. The students are all different now, although as far as I could tell, they are much the same.

Merry Christmas, god jul, happy holidays, love to you,
Jimmy
